What makes a Porsche 991 GT2 RS so special?

This is the widowmakers latest version - the 2018 Porsche GT2 RS. It ist available only in RS configuration, if it is really available! We drove the Weissach Edition as you might recognize easily having a closer look at all those wonderful carbon fibre body parts.

Red stitches, dials an the Weissach RS logo look great with dark grey Alcantara/leather interior.

Weissach RS package

The engine uses bigger turbochargers than the 911 Turbo’s, new pistons for a lower compression ratio, and new charge air intercoolers that are cooled by a water spray system fed from a five-litre tank located in the bottom of the car’s luggage compartment and allow the engine to maintain its peak output of 700 bhp even at high temperatures and under demanding load conditions.

The water spray reservoir i located inside the front trunk. Distilled water is used to be sprayed on the intercoolers to control the combustion chamber temperatures under full load.

This is the lift side exhaust outlet with flap. When the car ist driven hard and the flap is open you might see the catalytic converter glowing dark red, crazy!

What a crazy idea to conduct the air flow through a NACA inlet in the front hood to the front wheels to cool the front brake rotors. German engineering at it's best!

Weight-saving measures include a titanium exhaust (7kg lighter than a 911 Turbo’s); forged magnesium alloy wheels; a bonnet, anti-roll bars, front wings and engine cover made of carbonfibre-reinforced plastic; polyurethane bumpers; and back and rear side window glazing in lightweight Gorilla Glass.

We went to the wonderful Baden region near the river Rhine and the city of Baden-Baden. Here you'll find some nice villages like NEUWEIER, where is our restaurant for today. Armin Röttele's Restaurant & Residenz offers a variety of fresh dishes accompanied with regional wine from the "Schlosskeller".

Nearby is Yburg castle. It's worth to walk across the wineyards on top of the hill to visit the ruin and the 120 steps high Yburg tower. And of course the Biergarden in swiss "Heidi-"style is worth to relax there.

The result is a sensationally fast car, one that’s also far sharper, more drivable and controllable than it has any right to be. It doesn’t feel electronically managed either, not for a second, but wonderfully mechanical.

Formula Student Germany - Hockenheim 2019

Since I joined Porsche in 1990 in the former main department “Research and Sport”, I have never lost my enthusiasm for meaningful motorsport, which supports customer loyalty and technology transfer into our products. 30 years later I’m standing on the Hockenheimring, watching 3,500 students in 119 teams from all over the world present their results from a year of hard work on the racetrack: a single-seater formula racing car. 120 racing cars at the Formula Student Germany final 2019 in Hockenheim, Photo: FSG FSG: Formula Student Germany — or: fascinating, smart and holistic On August 11, 2019, the finale of this year’s Formula Student Germany (FSG) competition took place at the Hockenheimring.
